PostSubject: FBX importer?   Mon Jul 06, 2015 12:41 pm

I've got a bunch of models in fbx format that I'd like in OGRE format to test, and I can't find any importing programs. I know there is an import script for 2.45 blender but I have 2.49b and I also can't find the download for that script xDD

Does anyone know of any FBX importers?

You could import them to 2.45 then save them as .blend and open in 2.49b. Then once in 2.49b, export as .mesh. Although any animations or skeletons will be lost in the downgrade.

It should work fine if it's just meshes though.

It's the WoW model viewer. They've just released an fbx exporter and I think that filetype holds animations, where objs don't and I haven't learned animation and I could never top WoW's animations. I'm looking for something that can import to fbx and export to either OGRE or something else that holds animations than can be exported to OGRE. If I can't find anything that's okay xD thanks

The problem with oIT is the required use of a seriously outdated program. While they make importers for newer versions of blender, 2.49b is oooolllllldddd. If they just released an FBX exporter, then there is more than likely no version for 2.49b.

Unless you make things for KITO or Torchlight, no one uses 2.49b anymore- so they don't make software compatible with it because it's such a minority.

There are other ways to get animated WoW models working for oIT though.

Yup, I know that. I can't use the version with the OGRE exporter though because.. I have the Starter Edition, or Warlords of Draenor which isn't compatible with that version. And in no way will I pay that much money for a version compatible with that WoWMV version.

Ohhh how great IT would be if someone made an OGRE exporter for higher versions with better software and more scripts.

There are programs, but I don't know of any free ones unless you can get a trial version. Trial versions usually don't let you save things though...

Odd, since I only had the trail of Cataclysm when I first mucked around with it and it worked fine?

I tried using my version with the version Redeye posted and it errored. It said that it couldn't find WoW or something that I don't remember what it was. I would be using the version with the OGRE exporter if I was capable of getting a version compatible with it.

If you have FBX files with or without animations I can convert directly to Ogre suitable for use in IT.

They're FBX files exported from the WoW model viewer, which is the latest exporter in the latest update. I would do it myself provided I have a program that can import FBX and export OGRE, but the only FBX importer for Blender is for 2.45 and also only does mesh and texture I believe. I'm assuming that the FBX files do have the animations

/I also have no money

But thank you, Lazy c:

That's ok Cloud. I would have need of them as I am slowly removing WOW content from Dragon's Den.
I will not be adding new WOW content. However if you get stuck I will have a look for you.
There are several versions of FBX and some are not exactly compatible with anything.
There is a free FBX viewer available via a google search I suggest having a look at them with that.
I will not charge anything btw.
Cheers

O thanks! I wouldn't mind the obj exporter as much if I knew how to animate, but I know I can't top WoW's animations even if I did know.

I'll look for an FBX viewer again, I guess searching 'fbx importer' didn't bring up what I wanted.
